Game on: Sega Moto Champ 1973.

The Moto Champ arcade game had several small motorcycles on the playfield. The object was to take your player controlled motorcycle to the other end of the playfield. But while this is happening, the other game controlled motorcycles impede your progress. A Motochamp collision results in a "penalty", and you get four penalties in a game. A penalty also moves you back on the playfield. If you can advance your Moto Champ far enough up the playfield with a minimum of penalties, a free game can be won. The problem with this game is the lack of scoring. The only real measurable score in Sega Moto Champ is winning a free game.

Mechanically the four opponent's motorcycles are held, by magnets, to an elaborate motion sequencing mechanism located under the roadway. The player's motorcycle is attached to a rod, which leads back to a motor, that the handlebars control. The game does not use a large moving treadmill for the roadway as it would appear, but instead road scene is projected from a rotating drum and lamp assembly that is mounted in the head board.
