Carricks (Fish) Limited was established in 1929 by Herbert Thomas Carrick. 1929 was a bleak year and to have a job was a privileged position to be in. Bert Carrick was one one of the unlucky ones, with no jobs and no dole. On a cold day in late 1929 he rode into Yorkshire on his motorcycle with few clothes and little money. He stayed with friends hoping to find work, but jobs were scarce. He soon noticed that the grocer, the butcher, the green grocer and hardware persons all calle at the cottage, but no fishmonger. To his motorcycle he fitted a clothes chest and inside placed some tools.
