Constructed by the Chilean sculptor Mario Irarrázabal and located in the Atacama Desert in Chile. The Mano de Desierto has a base of iron and cement, and stands 11 meters tall.
Funded by a local booster organization called Corporación Pro Antofagasta, the sculpture was inaugurated on March 28, 1992. It has since become a point of interest for tourists travelling Route 5, which forms part of the Panamerican Highway
